The bukijutsu (Weaponry) that we teach at the Ryuhokan dojo comes from various sources from Okinawa, primarily our weapon practices come from Tamaki Juei Hanshi and his students, Ryueiryu kobudo from the Shodokan lineage, and a few various Chinese weapon forms that were picked up and added along the way.

Our unique bukijutsu system is integrated into our karate system. So as our students learn karate, they will also learn how to use various weapons for their rank. Training in both empty hand combat and weapon combat from an early level helps our students become more well rounded and they understand the threat that may come from a street confrontation because they are not only trained in one aspect of combat.

Our bukijutsu training doesn't consist of only kata (forms) or drills, we also practice kumite (sparring) with our weaponry utilizing Kendo Bogu armor. This live combat element of training really teaches our students how to use a weapon in a more realistic situation.
